Shoot More Shots

I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why, I succeed.

MIchael Jordan

It is a great ad, which you can watch below, but it illustrates a crucial point, the challenge of improvement isn’t accomplished in one moment. It is accomplished by thousands of small moment’s, some of them, failures.

A good shooter in basketball is lucky to be shooting at 50%. They are missing half of the shots they take. Also, the shots are only worth 2 or 3 points. There is no 100 point shot. So if you saved up all of your opportunities for one perfect shot it would still be only worth 2 or 3 points.

The person who shot 20 times, all with sub-optimal conditions will always outscore the person shooting one shot.

Whatever your skill that you are trying to develop, be it in the sporting fields, art, business, you want to keep practising things that are challenging for you.

If you are working on being a better communicator, which I am doing with these blog posts, at the start they will not be perfect. I often feel the idea I want to get across don’t really work as well on the page, as it does in my head.

But I need to go through the frustration, disappointment, annoyance of that disconnect to improve.

The failures shouldn’t be the end, just part of the journey.
