It’s all about being naked.
That is why we work out. It is why many maniacs, including myself get up at ungodly hours and drag their sorry arses to the gym. We want to look lean and jacked when we are naked.
Sure, you get healthy and all of that, live longer, don’t get sick, have more energy, sleep better, blah, blah, blah, you want to look good naked.
The wonderful thing about that is that we have lots of evidence on what helps.
If you want to work out more, and put on more muscle and strength the supplement list that you need to take is very short: Protein and Creatine.
Evidence Galore
Dr. Eric Trexler talked on the Renaissance Periodization podcast about what is required to make that top-tier list for supplements:
- Strong Evidence
- We know what it does
- What it does is good
- And what it does matters
And this is why the list is very short. It is also a checklist for what you do at work, home, or play.
Meaningful Matters
Taking this evidence-based approach and turning the lens on yourself and your organisation might lead to some positive revelations.
Strong Evidence? – I am sure there are things in your life that get done because they always get done. This cyclic logic could mean you are wasting many hours of your life or someone else’s life doing things that do not contribute to anything, reduce pain, or create joy.
We Know What It Does? – Are the tasks that are happening even understood. If we do this, what result will we get? What if you stop doing it? Will anything bad happen? Will something good happen in that it unlocks some free time for some more interesting thoughts?
What It Does Is Good? – Does what is happening actually contribute to anything?
And What It Does Matter? – What you do might tick all of the above boxes but does it actually move the needle forward in what you are trying to achieve? How does it affect a larger overall mission?
It Is All About Being Naked
The reason why it is all about being naked is because there is nothing to hide behind. For a person, it is a very literal sense but you can take this approach for your own work and effortful endeavours.
If you remove what you think about where your energy is going and take a hard naked look at it, would you be happy with what you are seeing?
