Why and How
Your boss asks a request that makes no sense, you want to ask why?
This can be challenging.
Instead ask how?
This makes them have to understand what they are asking and you might then get the why you were looking for.
Motion vs Action
Motion (Thinking) feels like you are doing something productive and moving you towards your goal.
Action (Doing) actually gets you there but is way more risky because you can fail.
Choose action over motion.
Invert
Invert your thinking to avoid disaster.
Instead of focusing on the big win, what is the big fail that will most hurt.
Now focus on stopping the big fail.
What about those others
Context and nuance matter.
If someone success did x, it doesn’t mean it was correct, is there people that did x and failed.
If someone does y and fails, it doesn’t mean that y isn’t right.
There is more to success and failure than one variable.

Set a high bar and watch them rise to it.

Believing in your team is simple, proving that by letting them be great and getting our of their way isn’t easy.

Understanding what “ground” you are on can help you define what strategy to engage with your competition and also how they might be trying to engage with you.
The Map Is Wrong
Don’t listen to what people did, listen to how they think.
Your situation is not the same as their situation so what they do might not work.
You can apply how they think to your situation to consider new answers for what you should do.
